Pinoy Popular Love Teams

    Love teams are essential in the Philippine Entertainment Industry. As followers, we never failed to watch their movies or serye, we also wish that they would end up together in real life. In this article, relieve the memories of the past and present love teams who captured the heart of pinoy audiences through the years.

Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson
Also known as "Kimerald" to their fans, both teenagers rose to fame in ABS-CBN's reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, where Kim was the big winner and Gerald placed the 2nd. Charming, wholesome, and cute, these three words best describe the "Kimerald" love team. The enchanting pair-up between the two ex-housemates–one being the adorable Cebuana chinita and the other, the handsome Amboy from General Santos–made them instant household names. 


John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo
They first appeared together in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. Their tandem has become a phenomenal hit because of their unbelievable chemistry. They are hailed as the Box Office Love Team of the country. 




Piolo Pascual and Judy Ann Santos
Judy Ann and Piolo appeared together for the first time in the series Esperanza. Their love team was fully realized when they made Kahit Isang Saglit in 2000. Their chemistry was such a success that Star Cinema and ABS-CBN continued to pair them up in TV series and movies alike. Their partnership came to a halt when Judy Ann was paired with Ryan Agoncillo, his love in real and reel life.





Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa
Their love team started in one of the Philippines' most watched-soap opera in recent television history, Pangako Sa'yo. The Echo-Tin love team was a perfect match; they were such a beautiful onscreen couple. Ratings for their prime time television shows went up and their movies were box-office hits. They became real life partners until they called it quits, however the clamor for a reunion continued.

Rico Yan and Claudine Barreto
Claudine and Rico starred in one of ABS-CBN's most successful soap operas that showcased powerhouse casting, Mula Sa Puso. Their onscreen romance soon became an off-screen relationship. Their last movie Got 2 Believe, a movie about the magic of love and believing in its power was a box office hit. Rico Yan died of cardiac arrest in 2002.

Romnick Sarmienta and Sheryl Cruz
They have become one of the hottest love teams during the 1980's. They appeared together in That’s Entertainment. Both started out as young stars until they were matched up to be an onscreen couple in their adolescence. They had the chemistry and did a few movies. Like other love teams, they fell in love but eventually broke up. 


Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta
Their first pair-up was in 1981 in the movie Dear Heart. Gabby and Sharon were the 80’s movie power couple. Their reel love story turned real when they got married in 1984.Unfortunately their love story cut short when they got separated so as their on-screen tandem.

William Martinez and Maricel Soriano
Regal Films found a perfect combination of love team when they paired William and Maricel in the movie, Oh My Mama in 1981. Their team up was described as wacky, funny and hilarious because of their comedy and fantasy flicks. Taray (as Maricel was formerly called) and Pabling (William) were reminiscent of the 50’s screen favorites Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa.

Bobot Mortiz and Vilma Santos
Their tandem started with the TV show, The Sensation. Their popularity grew, and they started co-starring in movies together. Their team up was a success and the audience clamored for them. They did 14 movies together in one year, probably a record for any love team.










Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III
Their tandem first emerged in 1969 with the box-office hit The Musical Teenage Idol. Their unusual pairing, a morena (Nora) and a mestizo (Tirso), became phenomenal in local showbiz. Their love team was one of the well-loved, closely followed and successful screen tandems in local cinema. The doll that Pip gave Guy, Maria Leonora Theresa became a pop culture sensation.

Nestor de Villa and Nida Blanca
They danced their way to fame. Their team-up started and blossomed in the movie, Amor-mio in 1952. They starred in romance-comedy hit movies that always had excellent musical and dance sequences. They both showed off their talent in dancing in the film Squatters(1953). They are the most popular love team of the 1950’s in Philippine movies.








Rogelio dela Rosa and Carmen Rosales
Mameng and Roger is no doubt the most popular and most loved tandem of their era. Their tandem was launched in the movie Senorita. Their team up was a hit and tremendously accepted during the prewar and postwar times. Their romantic scenes while singing as duet under a tree became a trademark.
