Mayon Volcano |
Magayon
Festival is an annual festival during the month of May in Albay that relieves the legend of Mayon
Volcano. The festival derived its name from Magayon,
a bicolano word which means beautiful. The celebration is also held in honor of
Nuestra Senora La Porteria, Daraga’s patron saint. The Legend of Mount Mayon
that has been the center of the celebration of the Magayon Festival is about the
tragic love story of Daragang Magayon, the most beautiful woman in Bicol and a tagalog
warrior, Pangaronon. Their tragic love affair was believed to cause the
mounting of Mount Mayon.
This year’s festival includes at least 150 events like the trade fair show, sports activities, fireworks display, musical concerts, Ginoo at Bb. Magayon, Bicol culinary festival, Art exhibits and many others. According to Albay Governor Joey Salceda, Magayon 2012 will let you discover Albay’s rich history and cultural heritage; it will also showcase Albayanos talents and skills. This is a great way in promoting trade and tourism that is designed to advance Albay’s drive towards the fulfillment of its socioeconomic development goals, Salceda added.
