in Season 7 and Thia Megia in Season 10. And now, another contestant with filipino blood is making the country proud, the 16-year old power belter, Jessica Sanchez.
Sanchez
was born in Chula Vista, California to parents Editha Bugay, a Filipina from
Samal, Bataan and Gilbert Sanchez, Mexican and a US Navy Veteran originally from Texas. Prior
to American Idol, Jessica Sanchez competed in the first season of America’s
Got Talent at the age of 11. She started singing at the age of 2 and aspires to be a
mainstream singer that can belt but sing
upbeat songs.

According
to the AI judges, Jessica Sanchez has the best vocals and one of the best singers
in the competition and her kababayans in the Philippines wholeheartedly agree.
Millions watched the show and while the contestants shine in their performance,
it is the viewers’ votes that ultimately decide the winner. And after a record
breaking 32 million votes cast, the 21 year old guitar performing singer
Phillip Phillips was voted 11th season American Idol winner besting
the powerhouse Jessica Sanchez. Although she did not win the coveted title,
Filipinos are still proud of her and makes her an inspiration to follow their
own dreams. To us, you are our “American Idol”
